Process – Phase 1 Conceptualize

Every great design begins with a deep understanding of place. In the Conceptualize phase, our process starts on the ground, with a comprehensive site analysis that explores the terrain, orientation, access, and broader context of the property. These elements are not just data points; they’re the foundation upon which purposeful architecture is built.
Our team walks the site, studies its patterns, and examines how sunlight, topography, and circulation shape both challenges and opportunities. This investigative work allows us to uncover the inherent potential of each location, whether it’s a steep bluff, a dense urban infill, a remote forest clearing, or a mountainside retreat where terrain and elevation become defining design elements.

Equally important is our collaboration with clients. Through bi-weekly meetings, we translate findings into design possibilities—balancing goals, constraints, and aspirations. Early sketches and 3D models evolve into refined concepts, ensuring each idea is grounded in the landscape and aligned with your vision.
By the end of this phase, we compile a schematic design package, complete with drawings, renderings, and documentation, ready for community review, municipal pre-development conferences, and preliminary contractor budgeting.
At its core, site analysis is where inspiration meets intention, where we uncover not just what can be built, but why it should be.
Projects: East Rockwood

Located in Spokane, Washington, East Rockwood is a modern home designed by Uptic Studios to blend precision craftsmanship with the natural beauty of its surroundings. The residence is defined by its warm material palette, concrete, wood, and steel, expressed through clean lines and expansive glazing that frames forested views.

Inside, an open floor plan connects the kitchen, living, and dining spaces around a striking double-height fireplace. Natural light floods the interiors through full-height windows, enhancing the warmth of the wood finishes and the elegance of polished concrete floors. Custom casework, contemporary lighting, and refined detailing throughout reflect our integrated approach to architecture and interior design.

Outside, the home’s horizontal forms, deep overhangs, and integration with the landscape create a seamless dialogue between built and natural environments. Courtyard spaces, native plantings, and outdoor living areas extend the home’s sense of openness and connection to place.

Our People: Alyssa

Alyssa joined Uptic Studios in June of 2022, bringing a unique background in the beauty industry as a cosmetics counter Manager and Stylist. There, she honed her client service expertise, eye for aesthetics, and operational management skills. All these abilities she now channels into our Procurement Studio Manager.
Outside the studio, Alyssa has welcomed a new baby boy to her family! She’s enjoying her time at home with family and going on neighborhood walks. Alyssa also enjoys doing Pilates and tackling home renovation projects. She’s especially drawn to Spokane’s rivers and lakes, with Lake Roosevelt being a favorite family getaway.
Her proudest achievement with [us]? Growing at Uptic from an administrative role into a position that perfectly blends organization, creativity, and client-focused problem solving.
Looking ahead, Alyssa is excited to expand her design expertise and procurement skills, managing projects from concept to completion and continuing to add value to both our team and our clients.
Our Events: First Friday with Artist Jon Morse

Thank you to everyone who joined us for First Friday at Uptic Studios. We are excited to showcase the work of Boise artist Jon Morse and to celebrate the start of Spokane’s October Arts Month together. The evening was filled with art, conversation, and community, a reminder of why we value opening our space to local creatives.
Jon’s large-scale pieces are thoughtfully framed by their surroundings. His use of minimalist organic shapes along with an intentional color palette make the artwork a focal point while simultaneously having a sense of energetic flow to keep your eyes moving seamlessly through the space. Our studio feels especially balanced and welcoming—and we invite you to stop by to experience it in person!
If you weren’t able to join us, consider this an open invitation to visit the studio and see Jon’s work in person. His pieces will be on display and available for purchase through January.
A special thank you to musician Greg Mahugh for providing the perfect ambiance for the event!
Idaho Club – End of Summer Soirée

We were pleased to co-host an End of Summer Soirée with our friends at Place Landscape Architecture and Smithwright Home Builders. Together, we welcomed members of the Idaho Club community, local realtors, family, friends, and colleagues from across the industry. The evening featured live music by Off the Cuff, great food, and several exciting raffle prizes—all set against the beautiful backdrop of the Idaho Club. Special thanks to our event sponsors—Spokane Hardware, Pella Windows, Backcountry Electric, and Like Media—for helping make the night possible. It was a great opportunity to connect, celebrate another successful season, and strengthen the partnerships that continue to shape our shared work.
