We’re excited to invite you to a special First Friday Artist Exhibition at Uptic Studios, featuring the captivating work of Montana-based artist Ben Mickelson. This event, co-organized with Kelly Baker Art Advising, marks Ben's final show with us—an evening you won’t want to miss!

Join us Friday, March 7th, as part of Spokane's First Friday tradition. Ben’s latest series explores the changing Western landscape through watercolor and mixed-media collages, drawing inspiration from the forests, mountains, and rivers that shape his art. Each piece reflects the beauty of the natural world and the places he holds dear.

The exhibition will be held at Uptic Studios, 402 E Sprague Ave, Spokane, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. This is your last chance to experience Ben’s incredible work in our space, meet the artist, hear about his creative journey, and connect with fellow art enthusiasts. Light bites and refreshments will be provided.

First Friday is a monthly celebration of Spokane's downtown art and retail scene, taking place on the first Friday of each month from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Attendees can explore various venues throughout downtown Spokane, enjoying art exhibitions, live music, and special offerings from local retailers and restaurants.

I am inspired by the natural world. My art allows me to celebrate the places I love. Our forests, mountains, and rivers motivate and excite me. They flow through me and my art. In this current series, I begin to explore Western landscape as it changes with the seasons. Preparing for this solo exhibition at Uptic Studios has allowed me to focus on this new work in consideration of how these pieces would be highlighted in Uptic Studio's space. I'm excited to show a range of my work to the Spokane region and become more involved in the art community there.

Ben Mickelson is a Montana-based artist specializing in oil painting and mixed-media collages. He was born in Iowa and raised in Pocatello, Idaho. He initially received his BS in Chemistry from the University of Montana. Despite his lifelong interest in science, he returned to school to pursue his passion, art. Ben obtained his BFA from the University of Montana in 2005. Ben moved to Denver, then Salt Lake City: enjoying the mountains, creating art, and displaying his artwork at local galleries and shows. Moving back to Montana with his family allows Ben to continue to be in the mountains and find inspiration for his art. Ben’s adventures as an avid skier and outdoorsman result in a unique perspective evident in his abstract landscapes.
