FRIDAY MAY 29TH 5-7PM

UPTIC STUDIOS
402 E SPRAGUE AVE. SPOKANE, WA 99202

Join Uptic Studios for a special evening reception featuring the work of Deborah Griffin, a painter, textile artist, and lifelong maker whose work defies easy categorization. Deborah's practice spans decades and mediums, from hand-painted fabrics and wall coverings to fine art painting, always guided by a single conviction: the work knows what it wants to become. Her pieces are born from intuition and process, surrendering to surprise, texture, and color until something alive emerges.

This exhibition presents an opportunity to engage with an artist whose work spans mediums, techniques, and decades, brought together in the gallery setting of Uptic Studios.

The event will take place at Uptic Studios, 402 E Sprague Ave, on Friday, May 29th from 5:00–7:00 PM. Light bites and refreshments will be provided.

dEBORAH GRIFFIN

debora-griffin-artist-photo
Deborah Griffin is a painter and mixed-media artist whose work defies a single style, medium, or definition, and she's made peace with that. Based between Spokane, WA, Fort Lauderdale, FL, and a studio on Manhattan's Upper West Side, Deborah brings a life richly lived to every canvas: a country upbringing, a career dressing fashion capitals, and 40 years running Starshine Studio producing bespoke hand-painted fabrics and wall coverings for the high-end interior design world. Through all of it, she was always painting.

Now in what she calls her "grandma years," Deborah has turned fully toward her authentic self as a fine artist. Her work is instinctual and process-driven. She starts with an idea, then steps back and becomes, in her own words, just the hands, the servant to the piece. The result is art of great versatility: varied in technique, texture, and medium, but unified by a sense of joyful necessity. Deborah makes art because she has to. It is, she'll tell you plainly, what she believes she was put here to do.
