Our Proc[us]: Phase 02—Visual-ize
The Visual-ize phase is where ideas come to life. Using 3D models, renderings, and curated material palettes, we bring the design vision into sharp focus.

For the Sun Valley project, this phase was essential in aligning with the client’s goals—using sustainable materials and cohesive interiors to craft a space that’s both stunning and functional. This phase ensures that every detail is considered before construction begins. Phase 02 lets us define schedules, architecture and interior design details, as well as construction documents.

Our Projects: Clearwater Paper
We’re excited to share our work with Clearwater Paper, a commercial project focused on blending innovation with usability. By reimagining collaborative spaces and fostering an environment that supports employee well-being, this project embodies our commitment to creating spaces that work for people.

Clearwater Paper’s new office spans 22,097 square feet on the second and third floors of their existing building. This move not only provides much-needed space but also creates opportunities to showcase their commitment to the environment and employee wellbeing. The design incorporates materials, colors, and patterns that reflect natural elements, including a stunning moss wall by the grand staircase and warm tones that echo forest greens and tree trunks.
In addition to celebrating nature, the design honors Clearwater Paper’s legacy. Large-scale graphics of their original locations and mills adorn the walls, offering a nod to the company’s history while inspiring its future. Branding elements like the phrase “Fiber is the Future” are seamlessly integrated into the design, reinforcing their mission and culture.

To create an environment that feels inviting, we infused hospitality-inspired design principles throughout the space. A central fireplace framed by natural stone serves as a focal point in the living area, creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere reminiscent of a boutique hotel lobby. The adjacent open kitchen encourages informal gatherings and collaboration, while private meeting areas offer flexibility and functionality.
Even transitional spaces were designed with intention. Corridors feature vinyl wall graphics of mystical trees, turning a simple walk to the restroom into a serene forest journey. Lighting fixtures made from organic materials, like suspended paper carton lights, add a sense of artistry and natural texture to key areas.
Open shelving throughout the space allows for the display of achievements, while a built-in TV above the fireplace provides a platform for sharing updates and accomplishments. Midcentury modern furniture introduces pops of color and diverse seating options, offering employees flexibility and comfort in their day-to-day work.

The design also emphasizes executive spaces, including a private outdoor deck on the third floor and a new stairway that connects the two levels. This staircase, with its open treads and moss wall backdrop, creates a grand yet grounded entrance into the office.
From concept to execution, the Clearwater Paper project has been a collaborative effort. Over an eight-month design process, we worked closely with Clearwater’s team to ensure the final space aligned with their vision. Uptic Studios provided architectural, interior design, and procurement services, while Contract Design supplied the office furniture. With construction expected to conclude by late spring, the new office is set to redefine workplace design for Clearwater Paper.

Our Events: Sustainability
Sustainable design is a cornerstone of what we do at Uptic Studios, and it’s easier to achieve than you might think.
This month, we’re excited to share a video that summarizes our fall sustainability event. We learned how sustainability can be seamlessly integrated into any project. Russ Vaagen from Vaagen Timbers shared his expertise on forest health, mass timber, and sustainability in the built environment.

Additionally, we’re hosting our first forum of the year later this month on January 30th. Featuring Dave Schaub from the Inland Northwest Land Conservancy. He’ll be talking about the Intersection of Land Conservation and Architecture. Stay tuned for details and to RSVP.

Our People: AI & Architecture
How is AI transforming the field of architecture? Our Architectural Designer, Taylor Stevens, and Graphic Designer & Marketing Associate, Antoni Carlson, delve into this topic. Check out this interview with Antoni, exploring how technology is enhancing creativity, efficiency, and innovation in design.
As we move into 2025, we’re excited to continue crafting thoughtful, sustainable designs that connect people to their spaces in meaningful ways.
